The Thousand Sunny rested quietly in the bay, waves lapping against its hull. The Straw Hats stepped onto golden sands; their eyes drawn to the massive temples ahead.
The ruins stood tall, weathered by centuries yet unbroken. Carvings of lions, elephants, and lotus flowers stretched across the stone walls. Palm trees swayed in the sea wind, but the air carried a strange heaviness, like the land itself was holding its breath.
“Whoa…” Chopper’s eyes sparkled. “These carvings are incredible! Look, some are shaped like warriors!”
Usopp trembled. “Warriors?! No, no, those are obviously demon statues waiting to eat us alive!”
Brook rattled. “Yohoho! If they do, I’ll be double dead!”
Sanji wasn’t paying attention; he was already kneeling before a group of maidens who were offering flowers at the temple steps. “Ahhh, my lovely angels! May I assist your delicate hands with those garlands?!”
“Focus, you lovesick idiot!” Nami smacked him with her staff.
Robin knelt by an inscription half-buried in coral, her fingers brushing the ancient letters. “These are Pandya markings. They speak of a ‘Lotus Path’… a trial left for those who dare seek their treasure.”
Before she could say more, the ground trembled.
Zoro, growing impatient, had sliced through a thick vine blocking a doorway. The moment his blade struck stone; the entire temple shuddered.
The carvings on the walls began to glow faintly. Cracks of light spread through the stone, and slowly, giant statues of six-armed guardians pulled themselves free from the walls. Their eyes blazed with golden fire; weapons clutched in their hands.
“ZORO!!” Nami screamed. “What did you DO?!”
“Oi, don’t blame me!” Zoro snapped, pulling his swords free. “It was just a vine!”
“Cool!!” Luffy shouted, already charging forward. “I’ll fight them!”
He stretched an arm to punch a guardian, only to bounce back as if he’d struck iron. “Ow… that’s harder than Kaido’s scales!”
The guardians advanced, their thunderous steps shaking the ground.
Usopp collapsed onto his knees, screaming. “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!”
Sanji lit a cigarette, cracking his neck. “Guess we’re breaking priceless antiques today.”
But Jinbe’s deep voice cut through the chaos, steady and grim.
“These are not mere statues,” he warned. “They are the Guardians of the Pandyas. It is said they were built to test the worth of those who dared to claim the treasure. If we cannot pass… the sea itself will bury us here.”
The words hung heavy in the air. Even Robin looked uneasy.
But Luffy only grinned, his fists crackling with excitement.
“Treasure or test, I don’t care! If these guys are in the way” He launched himself forward, rubber arms swinging. “we’ll smash right through them!!”
The temple shook with the clash of stone and steel as the Straw Hats hurled themselves into battle, the first trial of the Pandya treasure underway.
The Battle with the Pandya Guardians
The temple shook as the stone guardians advanced, six-armed giants wielding swords, spears, and shields. Their eyes glowed with golden fire, each step sending vibrations through the ancient walls.
Luffy cracked his knuckles, eyes sparkling with excitement. “Hehehe… let’s go!!”
He launched forward, stretching his arms wide.
“Gomu Gomu no Gatling!!”
Rubber fists pummeled the nearest guardian, but instead of shattering, the statue absorbed the blows, its body ringing like a temple bell.
“Eh?! It’s not breaking?!” Luffy yelped as the guardian swung a stone club, sending him flying across the room and crashing into a pillar.
Sanji leapt in, his leg igniting. “Outta the way, Luffy! Diable Jambe: Concassé!!” His fiery kick slammed into a guardian’s chest, cracking the stone, but the statue didn’t stop. It raised all six arms at once, forcing Sanji to dodge with a frustrated snarl. “Tch. These things are tougher than iron plates!”
Zoro grinned, drawing his three swords. “Perfect. Let’s see if they can stand against this.”
“Santoryu Ogi: Sanzen Sekai!!”
His blades carved through the air, slashing into the guardians. Chips of stone scattered, but the cuts only left shallow marks. The guardians pressed forward, swinging with inhuman precision.
“Th-they’re unstoppable!!” Usopp cried, firing a barrage of Pop Greens. Vines wrapped around one guardian’s leg, but it ripped free easily.
“Robin!! Do something!!” Nami shouted, clutching her Clima-Tact.
Robin crossed her arms, dozens of hands sprouting across the guardian’s body. “Seis Fleur: Clutch!” With a snap, she forced one statue’s head to twist and crack. It crumbled to dust, the golden fire in its eyes extinguished.
“That’s it!!” Chopper cheered. “Robin, you can beat them!”
But more guardians stepped out of the walls, their eyes burning brighter.
Jinbe stepped forward, calm despite the chaos. He planted his palm against the stone floor. “These guardians are not meant to be destroyed. They are a trial… they will keep coming endlessly.”
“Endlessly?!” Usopp shrieked. “We’ll be crushed!”
“No,” Robin said, suddenly noticing the glowing lotus carvings on the walls. “Not endlessly. They’re tied to the Lotus Path. If we can solve the riddle, they’ll stop.”
“Riddles?!” Luffy groaned, dodging a stone spear. “I hate riddles!!”
“Leave it to me!” Nami shouted. Her eyes darted to the inscriptions Robin pointed out; stars arranged around a lotus symbol. She quickly twisted her Clima-Tact, sending gusts of wind across the carvings, clearing the dust. As the symbols shimmered, she shouted: “Aim at the lotus on their foreheads!”
Zoro and Sanji, for once, moved in sync.
“Fine!”
“Don’t get in my way!”
Their combined strikes hit the glowing lotus marks. Crack by crack, the guardians froze, their golden light dimming.
Finally, Luffy charged the last one, his fist swelling.
“Gomu Gomu no Pistol!!”
He punched straight through the lotus symbol, shattering the guardian into rubble.
The temple went still. The glowing carvings faded into silence.
The crew stood panting amidst the dust. Usopp lay flat on his back, wheezing. “I… I thought I was a goner…”
Sanji brushed ash off his suit. “Tch. I would’ve finished them myself.”
“You mean I would’ve,” Zoro shot back, glaring.
Robin smiled faintly, tracing the inscriptions that had stopped glowing. “The guardians weren’t meant to kill intruders. They were testing us. And it seems… we passed.”
Jinbe’s deep voice rumbled as he looked at the cracked statues. “The legends were true. The Pandyas left guardians to ensure only the worthy would walk their path. This is only the beginning.”
Luffy stretched his arms with a grin, completely unbothered by the dust and bruises.
“Treasure or test, it doesn’t matter. We’ll keep smashing whatever gets in our way!”
The crew groaned, but the sparkle in their captain’s eyes told them there was no turning back.
Beyond the shattered guardians, a dark passage led deeper into the temple. The Lotus Path was waiting.
